Are you looking to learn more about insta stories ? You are in the right place.
Instagram took precedence over Snapchat 4 years ago with the launch of stories, these photos and videos that disappear 24 hours after being shared.
And just like Snapchat Stories, you can write, draw, and place stickers on your Instagram Stories. Chances are, you are familiar with this feature, but if you haven't dived into it yet, here are all the things you need to know about Instagram stories .
Before explaining how to use Instagram stories, let's talk about why.
Millennial craze or real added value? Instagram Stories may seem like a game at first glance but in reality it is a very effective way to share moments of your life / business without leaving any traces in the long term.
Even if you don't post an Insta story, you can view your followers' stories. And this feature has proven to be very popular and democratized.
After just a year, Instagram said it has 250 million daily story users (and now over 500), compared to Snapchat's 166 million.
Businesses even use Instagram Stories to drive engagement: One in five brand posts receives a direct message from a fan, and more than 70% of business accounts created a story in January 2020.
How to watch an Instagram story, ig story or Insta story?
Before we dive into how to create and post your own Instagram Stories, let's take a look at how you can see them.
If you don't have an account yet, download the Instagram app for iOS or Android and make one.
Insta stories can be viewed both on the mobile application and on the desktop version of Instagram . However, you cannot create a story directly from the desktop.
Stories appear at the top of your feed, in a carousel of profile photos of the people you follow. Additionally, at the top of your Explore tab, you can find public stories from a selection of popular accounts.
An Instagram colored ring highlights profiles who have posted a story that you haven't yet viewed, and you can simply tap any of them to view the story.
You'll see a chronological feed of videos and photos the person posted in the past 24 hours. You can tap on the right or left side of the screen to move forward or backward, respectively.

How to make an Instagram story?
If your Instagram story is currently empty, you can simply tap on your profile photo and it will activate the camera. You can add content to your Insta Story at any time by tapping the camera icon in the top left corner of the home screen.
From there, take a photo or video (or choose one from the last 24 hours from your camera) and just hit the “+ your story” button to add it to your story. You can also save it to your device or send it to individual users.
Congratulations, you've posted your first Instagram story!

How do I see views on your Insta story?
Once you've posted your story, you can see who viewed it at the bottom of the screen.
It will probably look something like “Jean Lebollec and 30 Others”, but if you tap on it you will get a full list of everyone who has seen your story.
At the top of the screen, your Instagram story will be broken down into thumbnails of each photo or video that composes it. Just tap on a thumbnail to see viewer stats about that entry.
Photos in portrait mode will be preferred for your Instagram stories.
Landscape photos are cropped, which can cut off the images you actually want to show or they will be very small (however you can put stickers on the top and bottom, which can be quite attractive to your followers.)

What format to choose for your Instagram story?
Instagram Story goes far beyond just sharing snapshots and starts with the format. When you open the camera in your story, you can select a different recording format using the options at the bottom of the screen
- Normal is a normal photo or video, like the one you take with your phone's default app. Touch the button to take a photo or hold it down to record a video of up to 15 seconds.
- Boomerang is a looping GIF-like video that repeatedly plays forward and backward. You can record just a few seconds with this mode, but if you shoot it correctly, it's a creative way to capture moments.
- Rewind is normal video, except that it plays backwards.
- Hands-free is another way to take a 15-second video, but you don't have to press the button to do it. Just touch it once, and the camera will keep spinning until the time is up (or you choose to stop it).
- Text is a story mode that allows you to write text simply with a predefined background.
- Focus allows you to take a photo or a video by focusing on a face for example.

Normally, some of your followers will be notified when you go live (you may have seen these notifications yourself when the people you follow have started a live).
Notifications can be turned off if you'd rather nobody know it, but it's usually a good idea to alert people when you're starting a live.
Since last year, Instagram has launched multi-person direct which allows you to make lives with your friends. A feature unique to Instagram , which can be useful for companies or personalities.
Both business and personal Instagram accounts stream live, and during the broadcast, viewers can send reactions and leave comments (unless you turn this off).
This makes a live broadcast a great tool to connect in real time with your followers.
Instagram also allows you to save your live lives as a video file to your phone directly, but comments and reactions will not be saved.
For the next 24 hours, a recorded live, like any other photo or video in your phone, can be added to your Instagram story.
How to add a link in my Instagram story?
A lot of Instagrammers are wondering how to add a link in their Insta story and it is legitimate.
2 scenarios are presented to you:
- If you have more than 10,000 subscribers:
Go directly to your story settings and add your link. That's it !
- If you have less than 10,000 subscribers:
You will not be able to add a link in your story, but alternatives are possible.
For example, you can tell the story to go click on the link in the bio.
This technique is very popular on Instagram and will allow you to redirect your audience quite simply off Instagram.
